Scanning gets underway

NZAA has started scanning site record forms from its Site Recording Scheme for inclusion in its digital Site Recording Scheme. There are over 60,000 recorded archaeological sites in New Zealand. NZAA members have been recording information about archaeological sites since the 1950s. The recorded sites are places where there is physical evidence of past human activity which can be investigated using archaeological techniques. The number is still growing as new sites are rediscovered.
Each record includes a standard A4 Site Record Form, plus supporting information. This can include maps and plans, photographs and descriptions collected from sites visits over a number of years. The site record forms are an important record of our heritage. Scanning the records will not only make them more accessible, but safeguard their contents for the future.
