New look for the Site Recording Scheme

The New Zealand Archaeological Association is delighted to announce that its application to the Department of Internal Affairs Community Partnership Fund has been successful. The Community Partnership Fund aims to support local, regional and national initiatives, through partnerships, to develop and achieve capability, confidence, relevant content, and connection to realise community aspirations through Information and Communication Technology.

The NZAA, with project partners the Department of Conservation and the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, applied for funds to transform the NZAA's Site Recording Scheme from a paper-based system to a fully digital system including scanning and incorporating its existing paper records. The new system will include a dedicated web site and use GIS (Geographic Information System) technology to manage and display site information. The project will run over three years, with the launch of the web site in June 2009 with the progressive addition of information online over the following two years.
